Carolina in the Classroom
Carolina in the Classroom Presents: Tar Heel Holiday Readers Give a child in New York City a lifelong gift – the love of reading! Donate online today.
The New York Carolina Club (NYCC) is supporting an alumna who works for Teach for America by sponsoring her classroom as part of Carolina in the Classroom – a philanthropy project of the New York Carolina Club.
NYCC will host a fundraiser that will allow students from a low-income community to choose a book to receive for the holidays. By selecting their own books to read and own, students will take some of the first steps toward becoming lifelong readers and learners. Students will select books based on their favorite topics, genres and authors, and then will receive a book that will become (for many of them) the first building block of their personal libraries.
By donating online, you will ensure that both of the classes being sponsored will be able to go on a trip to Barnes and Noble, where students will explore the many learning opportunities offered through books. Students will select one book that will serve as the first chapter in their lives as independent learners. You will also build a meaningful link between your own education in Chapel Hill and the futures of each of these students.
Donations will be accepted online until Monday, Dec. 15. All donations are appreciated, and we ask that you submit your address so that students may engage in an additional learning experience by writing you a personalized thank you note (your address will not be saved or used for any other purpose).
Thank you for your support, and the NYCC wishes you a happy holiday season!
