“At 61, the spleen-venting comedian is only getting bitter — that is to say, better — with age. Witness a comedy of expert modulations, subtle time-signature changes and just-right rhythms. To tune in only to the distemper, one misses the very music. “
– The Washington Post
“ Acting like a grumpy grizzly prematurely roused from slumber, he vents his frustration at the absurdities of the world in roars of profanity, waving his arms as though conjuring divine intervention.
But, as loudly as this riled-up grizzly may roar, his blustering misanthropy camouflages an underlying streak of sweetness; at heart, he is a benign Papa Bear waiting for the world to come to its senses. Until then, his bad mood seems likely to get worse. “
