Haber ’70 (Habey) award for outstanding contribution to the arts.  Ms. Lerner is executive director and president of Creative Capital Foundation. Doug Dibbert ‘70, president of the UNC General Alumni Association, and several past recipients plan to attend, ensuring yet another memorable Carolina brunch in New York.

NEW!  ARTS BRUNCH AFTER PARTY!

By popular demand, NYCC will hold its first Arts Brunch Networking After Party — immediately following the Brunch on Sunday, May 17th.  It will be held in the back parlor at Papillon Bistro & Bar, 22 East 54th Street (between Madison and Fifth Avenues).

No cover charge.  Cash bar.  Arts Brunch honoree Ruby Lerner will attend.  Questions regarding the After Party should be directed to Matt Olin at matt@olinstageandscreen.com.

Join your New York Carolina Club softball team and help us defend our title. Games are played on Sunday’s at 6 p.m. from June through August on field 5 of the Great Lawn in Central Park. Cost is $40 for GAA members and $60 for nonmembers. Click here to register via credit card.  Games are competitive, space is limited, and preference is given to prior-year players.  Price includes team jersey (new for ‘09!) and league costs.

This is an especially important event for the NYCC, bringing together all of the NYC area High School seniors admitted to UNC to meet with alumni, have their questions answered, and hopefully make the right decision. Many of these students face difficult choices, so it is imperative that we as Tar Heels give an effort to help the University continue to attract and enroll the nation’s top talent.

Title: Steep Canyon Rangers - Bluegrass Band Featuring UNC Alums

Description: The Steep Canyon Rangers are coming to play Joe\’s Pub on Sunday, February 15th. Tarheel bluegrass at it\’s finest - conveniently in NYC! Three of the band members are alums of UNC-Chapel Hill, and they founded the band in the stairwells of the university by picking and grinning. Come check out how these guys have grown into stellar songwriters, musicians, and singers. All participating alumni and friends are invited to gather at the Izod Center box office by 6:45 p.m. for an opportunity to sit court-side for team warm-ups. Be sure to wear Carolina-blue gear to attract the eyes of Vince, Antawn and Brandon, who may pass by for a quick hello.

Attention All New York Tar Heels!

Make plans to join the New York Carolina Club on Wednesday, February 11th for the Official UNC-Dook Gamewatch in New York City at Jay-Z’s famous 40/40 Club! We have rented out several VIP rooms, including the ESPN Hall of Fame Room and the Soriano Lounge, and will have beer buckets on special as well as half off wings. Doors open at 7pm, and, of course, there will be sound for the game.

Also, this year, we have teamed up with the Mary Claire Satterly Foundation to help support a special cause in honor of a New York Tar Heel (Mary Claire “MC” Satterly, JOMC ‘02) who lost a hard-fought battle with cancer in April of last year. There will be a suggested donation of $20 at the door to benefit the “Mary Claire Satterly Pediatric Oncology Playroom” set to open in Chapel Hill this year at the New Cancer Hospital.
