Bryan Tucker ’93 is a stand-up comedian and sketch actor, but he’s mostly known as a comedy writer. Bryan has written for some of the top TV sketch shows in the past decade including The Chris Rock Show, Chappelle’s Show and Saturday Night Live, for which he, in his seventh season, currently serves as writing supervisor.

Bryan is a five-time Emmy nominee, the recipient of a Peabody Award, and three Writers Guild Awards. A sketch that Bryan wrote for Chappelle’s Show (“The Race Draft”) was picked as No. 12 on Nerve and IFC.com’s “50 Greatest Sketches of All Time.”

Before he broke into television, Bryan was a performer who played more than 500 shows around the country as a stand-up and as a player in the sketch/ improv group Selected Hilarity. He still does stand up occasionally in New York.

Bryan is still active in the Carolina community. He and his wife, Rachael ’96, started the Tucker Family Scholarship, awarded to one student each year in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Bryan also has participated numerous times in the annual Carolina Comedy Festival, where he performs with special guests and leads seminars on comedy writing. While in New York, Bryan enjoys spending his time yelling at the television during Carolina basketball games, breaking several rules of his co-op apartment building. Bryan lives in New York City with his wife and two children.

Fellow Tar Heel,
In a weekend that featured many memorable moments (we were all Lehigh fans on Friday night) and huge upsets, Roy’s Boys kept their eyes on the prize and advanced convincingly in both games. However, the wins did not come without a cost, as Kendal Marshall went down with a wrist injury. Butters had surgery on Monday and is now in a removable cast, but regardless of who plays, it’s the front of the jersey that matters and the goal is still a national title. I don’t have to tell you what happened on Saturday night. I don’t have to tell you that yet another Senior Night at Duke was dominated by Roy’s boys. I don’t have to tell you that they shut down Franklin Street as soon as the final buzzer rang. However, it is worth repeating that it was an amazing week for Carolina. The Tar Heels started off the week by earning Roy Williams his 250th win at UNC in a tough game at Virginia. Against Maryland, the Tar Heels had an emotional Senior Night which also saw Kendall Marshall set the UNC single-season assist record. Finally, Carolina saved the best for last as it won its 29th ACC regular-season championship in a game at Duke that was absolute domination. March is only getting started though and the ACC Tournament is this week. The New York Carolina Club invites you to a game watch party for each of the Heels’ ACC Tournament games!

Roy’s boys are paving a tried and true championship path by getting hot late in the season. The Heels faced immense pressure to continue the streak against Clemson at home and entered a very hostile environment against NC State in Raleigh. By picking up convincing wins in both games, Carolina displayed the mental toughness and competitive drive that is required of a champion. The schedule doesn’t get any easier this week though, as the Heels go against a ranked Virginia squad on the road. Following that it is the always special Senior Day against Maryland where one of the greatest tradition in college basketball will continue: allowing all Seniors to start. Finally, on March 3 comes the rematch that we have all been waiting for as Carolina invades Cameron to take on Duke. The New York Carolina Club invites you to game watch parties as the Heels take on Virginia, Maryland, and Duke!

Carolina fought back after a tough loss to Duke by beating two likely NCAA teams in Virginia and Miami. In doing so, Roy picked up his 100th ACC win at Carolina, becoming the second fastest coach in ACC history to have 100 wins. The streaks and numbers continue this week as the Heels take on Clemson at home, where Carolina has an all-time record of 55-0 against the Tigers. Following that, the Heels look to continue the rude welcome to NC State’s new head coach by going into Raleigh and taking another win over the Wolfpack.
